Improvising to a cloud script
Acting out a cloud-related script with Joshua Nijiati Alimujiang and discovering what improvisation could add to it.

In July, Joshua Nijiati Alimujiang brought us a script with different roles for us to act out together. Its story involved climbing a mountain and becoming lost in the clouds.
The script is titled The Anvil, a ten-minute fiction adventure. Read the full script as a PDF →
The script gave the session a structure, but we were free to add whatever improvisation felt right as we performed it. That freedom took the scene beyond the words on the page: we changed how the roles related to one another, followed ideas as they emerged and even began singing.
It was a playful way to explore what a cloud narrative could become when it was embodied by people rather than only discussed. The script created a shared starting point, while the improvisation let each of us bring something unexpected to it.
